Windows 10: Where is the Registry?

Hello, A few years ago, I had an error message about my profile. I couldn't get onto my computer the normal way, I needed to get on in a different mode. Anyway, I googled the problem I was having and found a youtube w/instructions on how to fix it. The instructions called for changing the registry # so I did it; it took care of the error message but other stuff disappeared. So, needless to say, I regretted doing this and wish I reached out to you.Can the registry be restored to a former time/year? Where is the registry? It's been a long time. Many thanks for any help!
