Windows 10: Where is the uninstall option for copilot? Nobody asked for this.

The new update loaded in an Ai, that I absolutely did not ask for. I want this thing gone, not turned off, gone. I tried uninstalling through the "remove programs" tool, but it still seems to be here.

Uninstalling CoPilot

A couple of days ago (without asking my permission) Windows 10 installed something called Copilot - and AFAICT it's impossible to uninstall. I found at least half a dozen sites with instructions for uninstalling but none of them worked. In fact if I open Control Panel here, it doesn't even show up in the list of installed apps.

I also found this web site with instructions for creating a special registry key. The regkey wouldn't uninstall Copilot but would supposedly disable it - which it doesn't - instead, it causes Copilot to create some weird looking menu bar at the RHS of my screen.

How on earth do I just uninstall Copilot? Or at least disable it?

[Edit...] I'm not sure how I found it but I came across a Settings dialog for Copilot. It looks like if I disable Show Copilot and Automatically open Copliot in the sidebar that'll have the effect of disabling it. Strangely though... simply disabling Show Copliot doesn't disable it (both options need to be disabled...) Go figure...

 

SHAME on Microsoft! Copilot should be OPTIONAL!!!!

The Windows Copilot is an in-built feature, that's why it can't be uninstalled like a regular app. The only options to permanently disable this feature is via Group Policy or Registry Editor. To remove copilot via group policy editor, please follow these steps: Press Windows key + R to open Run dialog box, then type gpedit.msc and press OK to open Local Group Policy Editor. Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Copilot. Expand the Windows Copilot folder and from the right panel, double-click Turn off Windows Copilot. In the next window, check the Enabled option and then click Apply > OK to save the changes.

Copilot randomly got removed from taskbar options.

I can understand how frustrating it is when an essential feature like copilot disappears unexpectedly.

Here are few steps to fix this issue.

1. Open Settings.
   
   Click on Personalization.
   
   In Taskbar, check if the Copilot toggle is off. If so, turn it on.
   
2. If Group Policy Editor isn’t working, try these steps:
   
   • Press Win + R, and enter gpedit.msc.
     
   • Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
     
   • Look for any policies related to Copilot and ensure they’re not disabled.
