Windows 10: Which driver to download from Intel site?

Hi. My install of Windows 11 needed a driver for Intel GMA 3600. There is only a Windows 7 driver, which I installed but it crashed. On another post I have been advised to install it as an administrator in Compatibility mode for Windows 7. Can't find my original driver download and I am now wondering if I had the right one anyway.

The machine has an Atom N2600 Processor, which is the GMA 3600 series. The driver installed on Windows 7 is version 8.14.8.1064. dated 14/12/2011.

On the Intel site this doesn't appear so I assume there is a later version (although when I go to update the version on Windows 7 it says it is the latest version).

So here is what is on the Intel Site

If I look under Atom N2600 drivers there is this package (which further down the page says it is for N2600 amongst others), which is a zip file.

If I change the search to Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600 series and select 'drivers' and 'windows 7 32 bit' I get these three options, all of which are .exe files.

Out of these three, none are the same version as the one currently installed (does that matter).

Any assistance on the correct one would be gratefully received. The machine is a 'Fizzbook Spin" 10" atom netbook - rugged casing - which is based on the Intel Classmate netbook (might even be exactly the same). With a touchscreen and various Intel programs on which we don't use lol.

The DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE error implicates the igdkmd64.sys which is the Intel graphics driver which appears to be dated from 2015 so try updating the Intel graphics driver:

CD/DVD Drive not working after upgrade to Windows 10

Sometimes one can obtain a more recent driver from the manufacturer.

Try installing this Intel RST driver from Intel, it appears to be the latest driver for the Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 :

Download and run the SetupRST.exe which you may have to run in compatibility mode.

Any optical drive that is compatible with Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 should have the same compatibility with Windows 10.

However there could be other issues affecting the drive which could affect all drives.

 

Found the right driver but couldn't work out how to install it through device manager as the file didn't show up using that method so I tried installing it in W7 compatibility running as administrator and ran the exe. It worked a treat for about 3 minutes - then blue screened and I had to reset everything. I've decided to give up on upgrading this machine.

 

Hello! First of all you are looking for the graphics driver. Usually Intel provides two forms for each driver. An executable (EXE) and an archived (ZIP). If you want to manually install a driver from Device Manager, you need the ZIP version so you can extract easily the files in a folder. When in Device Manager, expand Display Adapters and right-click on your graphics card. Select Update drivers and choose always the last options until you see a "Have disk" button. Click on that and then browse to the folder where you extracted the driver. Proceed to install it.

Before trying to manually install the driver, you can try running the Setup in Windows 7 compatibility mode. To do that, right-click on the setup file and select Properties, then click on Compatibility tab. Check the box to enable the list and select Windows 7. Check also the Run as Administrator box and click OK to confirm. Now run the setup and it should complete OK. If it exits without installing, it is probably configured to install in Windows 7 only and abort at newer versions. You have to hack the INF files. These are the files that contain information about the DLL being copied to Windows and the registry keys being generated when you install the driver. You may have to unhide known extensions to find those. When you find one, right-click on it and select Edit or open with Notepad (sorry, I'm not running Windows right now, so I cannot see the exact steps). Look carefully at the code or search for NT 6.x Leave alone any entry that contains code underneath and remove entries that do not. As I said I'm currently testing a Linux version, so I cannot see the exact steps and guide you. If you have any difficulties, I'll post again.

 

Thanks very much! I knew it was something to do with the .inf file. I had the .exe one so maybe that's why I couldn't find the .inf file through device manager. Really appreciate the help. But have re-installed Windows 7 again now on that machine - I think this one is too technical for me!

In order to install the Grapfics 3600 Drivers in Intel Atom N2600, should still be done this way or for this year 2017 there is something better and simpler?
Windows 10 Pro. It has changed a bit since then, I hope you answer me to try to do what you explained in this thread!

 

If there is a driver for Windows 8 or 10, then you just download it and install it. No tricks required. If there is only a driver for Windows 7 (haven't checked) then download it and try to install it first without tricks. If you succeed, then you are OK. If you see an error that this driver is not for this version of Windows, try changing the compatibility to Windows 7 first. If again this doesn't work, you have to open the INF file and change the Windows version there as explained in my previous posts. So you download the Windows 7 driver (if there isn't on for 8 or 10), try the normal installation procedure first. If this fails, try setting the compatibility to Windows 7. If this again fails, try modifying the Windows version in the INF file.
