Which is the correct Microsoft mouse with a cord to use with a laptop

I have used a basic Microsoft optical mouse with a USB cord for decades.

They used to be available almost everywhere, they came in a predominantly red box, often with a sticker saying that it was compatible with the latest Microsoft operating system, which today for me would be Windows 10 PRO - 64 bit.

Now they are hard to find, especially at mass merchandisers, and the computer specialty website where I also shop.

I have found two camera and electronic shops that carry what is labeled "corded Microsoft basic optical mouse," but it comes intwo versions, for a dollar or two difference! Both connect to the computer with cords. One is labeled Microsoft basic optical mouse, and the second for a dollar more is labeled Microsoft basic optical mouse - Business with software.

Both are black, look alike, and the second one also comes in a white version. For the second one labeled "business" it doesn't say whether "the software" is in the mouse, or in the box to install in the computer.

Can you tell me which one is the correct one to buy for an ordinary HP EliteBook laptop with a Windows 10 PRO - 64 bit operating system? I have never seen this choice before when buying a mouse, including a basic Microsoft optical mouse, with a cord.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

    Alan

  2. Corded Mouse Connectivity

    Hi,

It's really odd that your corded mouse is working on your computer, but not on your husband's. It could be a driver issue since it showed that it's working in system diagnostics. Mostly, USB or corded mouse are plug and play device. However, we would like
to clarify if you tried to search for your mouse driver in its manufacturer's website, since you've got a message regarding it. If yes, can you tell us what happened next?

In the mean time, you can check the troubleshooting steps in this article and see if it'll help to resolve
your concern. You may skip the steps that you've already tried.

We're looking forward to your response.

  4. Which is the correct Microsoft mouse with a cord to use with a laptop

    Bluetooth mouse still freezes

    • Try installing fresh new batteries.
I did try that, no difference.

    • Try to unplug the Bluetooth adapter of your mouse and plug it back in.
You mean on the computer? It's built in.

    • Try connecting the Bluetooth adapter of your mouse to a different USB port.
    See above

    • Try to remove objects that can interfere with the signal of your Bluetooth adSapter and mouse.
The only thing in the 1.5' between the mouse and the laptop is a chair arm and the computer power cord.

    • Go to the Start screen.
    • Type Windows update and click on it from the list of results.
    • Click on Check for updates on the left pane in the new window.
    Windows is up to date.

We also suggest that you try to contact the manufacturer of the Bluetooth mouse for other options.

    I thought I just did. It's a Microsoft mouse.
