When I came home and started up my computer it first asked me for my password and when I did it it suddenly demanded that "Your company has decided that you need a pin", it wasn''t in english so I'm roughly translating it. I had to input a new pin and check it, but i know for sure that I didn't go into my account settings and set it that i had to input a PIN. Now after I've dissabled the PIN through the settings it's back to normal, so I'm left wondering if it was an update, a virus??? or if it had to do with me downloading MS Teams yesterday and loging into my school account, though i don't

My computer is suddenly demanding a password

I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of the lurid photos and password screen on my computer, as well as the obnoxious hints from "Cortina." Now, suddenly, it's demanding that I enter my Microsoft password before letting me in!

I will say that this puts the earlier hassle factor of not being able to control my own computer's appearance into perspective, but how do I fix this? I do not want or need a password on my personal computer. Help!

Thanks for your feedback. I would suggest two things, one compulsory, one optional:

• Compulsory: Create, test and document a spare admin account so that you never ever get this type of problem again.
• Optional: Ask a computer-savvy friend to show you how to boot a machine off a repair flash disk, without having to enter a password.

 

Installed Bitlocker does not ask for password on computer start-up!


I have managed to solve the issue thanks to the terrific guys here on these forums.

For anyone else who is ever in the same boat, step 5 on this page is what you need to do. As it states, you need to unencrypt your hard-drive, then configure the settings in step 5, and then encrypt your drive again.

Now it asks me for a Bitlocker pin number whenever I start-up my computer.

THANK YOU to everyone for your incredible assistance. I have enjoyed far more knowledgeable folk and superior support here than I have ever seen on Microsoft's lousy forums where their own staff have little idea about the products they supposedly specialise in. It's a real pity that, now that we are even into version 10 of Windows, even the simplest of steps is made into a headache that can take 10+ hours to resolve. For the life of me, I don't know why Bitlocker can't just ask you "would you like to set-up a password when you start-up your computer?" instead of having to go into the deeper recesses of the operating system's configuration options and taking 25 steps to be able to so.
