Windows 10: Who was the **** that made it a requirement to have a microsoft account to set up a PC?

My 78yo father needed a new computer because his old computer crashed. Bad HDD, non recoverable. I am helping him set up his new PC when it asks for a microsoft account to continue. It accepts his account but then wants to verify its him and sends him an email to prove it.If he had access to his email account, aka his old computer, we wouldnt be setting up a new computer for Fk sake.He doesnt have a smart phone, its too small for his eyes, and now microsoft wont allow him to start up his own machine without his microsoft account, which they apparently dont believe is histhere is no way to say

I would suggest you to switch your Microsoft account to a Local account first and then switch back to Microsoft account. Please refer to the following steps:

• 
  In the Start search, type 'Settings and press
  Enter.
  
• 
  Choose 'Accounts'.
  
• 
  Under 'Your account', click
  'Disconnect' option available under your Microsoft account name.
  
• 
  Follow the onscreen instruction to create a local account.
  

Now, on the newly converted Local account, follow these steps:

• 
  In the Start search, type 'Settings and press
  Enter.
  
• 
  Choose 'Accounts'.
  
• 
  Under 'Your account' click 'Connect
  to a Microsoft account'.
  
• 
  Enter the Microsoft account ID and Password and click Next.
  

Follow onscreen instruction.

Check if it resolves the issue.

Microsoft account set as a work account and a Microsoft Account

Hi Dean,

As per the description, I suggest that you sign out of one of the accounts and sign into the account again. This will help us to know if the account used in either of the account is not the same.

To sign-out of the Microsoft Account follow the steps below

• Sign in to your Microsoft account on Windows 10.
• Click Start and then PC settings.
• Click Users and accounts and under Your Profile click Disconnect on the right of the screen.
• Enter your Microsoft account's password, and click on Next.
• Type in a Username, Password, and Password Hint that you want set for your Local account and click
  Next. Click on Sign out and Finish button.

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.
