Windows 10: Whole system lagging / going really slow since driver upgrade

I updated my NVIDIA GeFORCE RTX 2070 graphics driver after the updater said there was a new version available.Immediately after rebooting I started to have issues.Firstly, after restarting the laptop Asus GX502L I7 it became extremely slow. I knew something was up when the Windows "start-up chimes" sounded really slow and glitchy. Also, the laptop became roasting hot to the touch -- literally almost too hot to type on. I checked the fans and realised they'd stopped working completely. It took 20 minutes, but I managed to close the system down as quickly as I could, unplugged everything and l

• What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
• Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• On the left pane, click on View All.
• Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.
