Why after the latest Cumulative Update, the CPU power management is "dead"? aka speedstep...

Why after the latest Cumulative Update for 20h2, the intel CPU power management is "dead" aka speedstep dead, more power for nothing.

I tried different configuration - intel Xeon, Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, i7...

The speedstep is "dead" after update.

No CPU power management and nothing to fix it, unless i uninstall the "update" or reinstall the OS w10 v1909

I tried to reinstall drivers, but nothing.

On laptop, if unplugged from power supply and "i don't know what i do to get this speedstep working" it gets the intel CPU speedstep correctly.

    ?

And, to be a *&^%, this is not "eco friendly"

    ^.^ :/

    :)

Need help for troubleshooting a CPU power management issue

I hate to say, but I think you missed my point.

I am not investigating the CPU's performance
(as in: measuring app performance via benchmarking), but the management of the CPU's
frequency as part of the mechanisms that save power in the platform (via "CPU throttling" a.k.a. "Dynamic frequency scaling", called "SpeedStep" by Intel).

The Technet article is not relevant, 'cos it refers to
system power management (Sx power states), not to CPU powermanagement (Cx states, variable CPU frequency).

    Dell G3 Speedstep not working?

Go to battery Icon, bottom right click on that. Power mode(plugged in).
The CPU will run at constant frequency with that at " Best performance ", the other 2 settings " Better performance " and " Best battery life " the speedstep should operate.

At least that is the case for mine, the manufacturers Power Plan additions were uninstalled, they appeared as extra category in there. Those settings also override some of what you see in the Balanced [active] Power Plan. In there max/min processor state is 100%/5% that seems to be standard the processor in mine won't go to 5% due to the speedstep range it has.

When on Power mode(Battery) changes to 4 choices in Power Mode slider " Best performance " in this case has speed stepping." Best battery life " the CPU is at the lowest speed step virtually all the time.

Different CPUs and manufacturers may configure things differently. Confusing as always with Windows.

    Dell G3 Speedstep not working?

    Thanks Helmut,

I found the Power mode settings by left clicking on the battery icon in the task bar. Setting it back from Best Performance to Better Performance got Speedstep active and working. Now to figure out how to get manual control over the fans on this thing. *Biggrin
