Windows 10: Why am I being asked to activate Windows now. I have owned this laptop and software licence...

I have recently updated my Windows software from Windows 10 to 11. I keep getting a message that I should activate Windows. I purchased the laptop and software in March 2020. Windows was loaded by the seller so why would I have an activation code. It is very upsetting as I am unable to use either Excel or Word programs. The seller is unhelpful, what can I do next?.

There are two new entries in the Diagnostic report.

1. Activation Scenario Code:

2. ProductKey Code:

Both are blank on my PC.

My guess is 1. above relates to this VAMT Step-by-Step Scenarios (Windows 10) | Microsoft Docs - if so non-volume users won't be affected.

No idea about 2. - there are more than enougn PK entries already!... was hoping some more digital licencing stuff would come up.

Gonna have to do some more digging and testing,,,

Because you have a full retail licence then you can transfer that licence to a new PC

Before you sell that laptop, here are the steps to remove your Windows 10 licence form that laptop

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

From the resulting list, right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Paste this into Command Prompt and press Enter

slmgr.vbs /upk

When that command completes, close Command Prompt

That's It, that will remove your Windows 10 licence form that laptop . .

You need to ask the seller really. A laptop from a manufacturer (Acer, HP etc.) will already be activated by them before purchase.

Some sellers will buy a laptop with DOS (for instance) and install Windows 10 without a licence and then sell it as though it has a licence. These sellers should be reported.

If the laptop is listed as refurbished then the licence key should be contained on a Microsoft label.

What is the full make and model of the laptop?
