Windows 10: Why am I seeing squares system Icons

For some reason I am seeing squares instead of system icons. also in search the power options is displaying squares. This also impacts some windows applications not showing "words" or icons. This is not the desktop application icons but wifi icon in the tray and power under the windows icon in the system tray. I am unable to snip captures of power settings. I don't know what is causing the problem, it's annoying because some apps also have the same issue

System Icons on taskbar

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

Icons once they are pinned show small versions and a square


I have an issue with Windows 10. When I first installed Windows 10 everything was fine but I have found that the icons pinned to the taskbar are the correct icon but they are very small and inside a square. In my case its a blue square. Any way to get those icons back to the way I had them? I already deleted the iconcache.db file and rebooted. It did not work. Any other suggestions. The icons work fine and I can live with it but it would be nice to have the larger ones back.

 

Power Icon Missing: System Icon Greyed out - Windows 10

The system icon may have encountered a corruption that caused this issue. For us to help you with this concern, kindly answer the following questions:

• Can you please tell us some troubleshooting steps that you've performed while fixing the blue screen issue?
• Have you made any changes to the registry or bios?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far for this issue?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you try to restart the Windows Explorer process to refresh the taskbar icons. Kindly follow the steps below:

• On your keyboard, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and select Task Manager.
• On the Processes tab, look for the Windows Explorer process and select it.
  
• Click the Restart button at the bottom right corner of the Task Manager window.
  
• After the Windows Explorer process has been restarted, check the notification area on the taskbar and see if the battery icon is visible.
