Windows 10: Why am I unable to view videos via phone link? Is this privacy setting related, or...

Windows phone link on my PC isn't showing videos when I receive them via SMS. While on my PC, I am able to receive photos just fine through Windows phone link, but when someone including myself sends a video through SMS, it displays an "!", with a message that says "view this content on your mobile device". I have given permissions to my phone through phone link. I do have windows media player installed on the PC. Windows version: 10.0.22621, phone link version: 1.23082.131.0 Thank you for any help in advance.

Unable to view or download videos from websites

To help you suggest steps to resolve the issue, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:

• Did you make any specific hardware or software changes prior to this issue?
• Is the issue specific to a particular website?

Internet Explorer 11 comes with the latest version of flash player pre-installed. So, the issue may rest with the particular page having compatibility issues with the Internet Explorer or there may be an issue with the flash
player configuration settings in Internet Explorer. Hence, I would suggest you to try the following diagnostic steps to get started in the correct direction and check if the issue persists:

Method 1:

I would suggest you to try opening the page in the compatibility view and check if you are able to view the video.

Method 3:

As slightly mentioned in the Method 2, make sure that the necessary add-ons are enabled in Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:

• Open Internet Explorer.
• Tap or click the Tools button
  
• In the Currently loaded add-ons list, click Run without Permissions.
• Look for the following add-ons in the list that's displayed. If any of these add-ons are listed, make sure the Status for each is listed as Enabled.
  

• Shockwave Active X Control
• Shockwave Flash Object
• Java Plug-in (may be multiple add-ons)
• QuickTime Plug-in (may be multiple add-ons)
• Windows Media Player

Having done the above steps, check if the websites are functioning properly.

Unable to play audio and video files

For issues related to Video, I suggest you to run video playback troubleshooter and check if it helps.


To run Video playback Troubleshooter please follow the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows + X key.
  
• 
  From the jump menu select Control Panel.
  
• 
  On the Top right click on view by and select
  large icons.
  
• 
  Go to troubleshooting.
  
• 
  On the Left panel click View all items.
  
• 
  Select Video Playback and follow the on screen instructions.
  

I also suggest you to install the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check if it helps.

Privacy Settings Not Working

Hi Mahrin,

You may be having a hard time in accessing the website because of the browser you are using. Kindly answer the following questions so we can help you in resolving the problem:

• What browser do you use to access your Xbox account on the web?
• Do you get a specific error code when you open the privacy settings link?
  
• Did the problem start after applying changes on the PC?

If you are using Windows browsers to access the website, see if deleting the browser history will allow you to open the privacy settings page. Doing this will clear the stored Internet data that may be preventing you from accessing certain websites. Refer
to these links to delete the browser history for Windows browsers:

• View and delete browser history in Microsoft Edge
• View and delete your browsing history in Internet Explorer

It will also give us more information about the issue if you try signing in to your Xbox account and going to the privacy settings page using a different browser.
