Windows 10: Why are all my docs showing paragraph symbol?

Suddenly, all my Microsoft Word Documents when opened are riddled with paragraph symbols throughout each document. Hundreds of my documents are like this. Going back years. They are unusable. Pdf documents are not affected. I did not do this. I am non-technical, not a software techie. Yet another Windows 11 bug?

What application are you seeing those paragraph symbols in, is that Microsoft Word?

In most applications, including Word, on the Home menu look for the Pilcrow symbol and click that to remove the paragraph marks . ..

grey lines between paragraphs in O365 Word docs

Now all my Word docs show a grey line between all paragraphs in View Print mode, even if the paragraph contains just one word. I have reviewed all the Paragraph settings and can't find a way to turn off these lines. I have always used the Normal template. A web search did not turn up anything helpful. Win 10 2H22
