    Why are certain apps flickering when I use HDR?


    I'm running Windows 11 on a 3080/i9. I am using the most current Nvidia drivers. I am also using a ROG Strix monitor with HDR capability. It looks great and I have no issues with performance or the display until I run certain applications it seems - mainly certain not all games. It's very strange but it looks like the display of certain applications malfunction once I open and close a game. I've noticed this with Microsoft Word white background greys out/flickers and if I pause a video in VLC, the static image will flicker. Toggling on/off HDR fixes the issue but it's still annoying

    Unable to enable HDR

    Welcome to Microsoft Office Community Forum.

    Thank you for letting me know about the concern, I hope you are doing well today.

    I truly understand you really like enable HDR of your computer. The possible cause why it’s not working maybe your PC and display doesn’t meet certain hardware requirements.

    I suggest to update your windows first, please follow the steps below:

    • Start > and then go to Setting > Update & Security > Windows Update


    I would recommend the link below and kindly follow the troubleshooting steps in it.

    I would like to ask a video as well showing the error or the issue.

    Screen flickering in safe mode help!

    Hi Yasmeentq,

    Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    I understand your query. I suggest you to follow the steps to get out of safe mode.


    • Press Windows key + R

    • Type msconfig

    • In msconfig > Boot tab >
      Boot Options > uncheck Safe Boot > APPLY / OK.

    Screen flickering in Windows 10 is usually caused by incompatible apps or display drivers. I suggest you to refer to the article below and check if it helps.

    I haven't made any changes on my device. This screen flickering is only happening in Safe Mode.
