Windows 10: Why are my Ctrl and Windows key always breaking?

The computer I own is the Alienware Area 51 Laptop, I got this computer back in 2019-2020, and it's been completely fine overall. Around 2022, I started having issues with the keyboard. My Windows key would stop working, my left Ctrl key would stop, and so on. I've had this issue fixed three different times; it's very irritating to deal with. On multiple occasions, drivers have been reset for the keyboard, I restart the computer, I check if I need to redo updates, etc. I've tried all of the shortcuts I can think of. I've even reset the entire computer, and it wouldn't resolve a thing. Please,

Both CTRL keys not working

• Did you make any changes in your computer prior to this issue?

I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve the issue.

Follow the steps below and check if that helps.

Method 1: To check if Ctrl keys work in Onscreen keyboard.

• Press Windows Key + R and type osk and hit Enter.

Try using Ctrl keys and check if that helps.

if you still face the issue, try Method 2.

Method 2: Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with the Bluetooth adapter. Refer these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X, select
  Control panel.
  
• 
  Change the view by option on the top right to
  Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the
  view all option on the left panel.
  
• 
  Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
  
• 
  Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.

Windows 10 Pro and Ergnomic Break Reminder

Apologies for the late reply.



Do you remember installing any break reminder software?



It looks like it is a pop up from a break reminder software.



I suggest you to look for this in Programs in features and uninstall it if do not use it.



Try the following steps:

• 
  Press Windows + R keys to open Run Command
  
• 
  Type Appwiz.cpl and hit enter
  
• 
  Search for the programs and un-install it.

Not getting the prompt to end the run while pressing Ctrl + Break key

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I have tried the steps that you are performing and found that you can press the
Break key to pause the bat operation and once the operation is paused if you press
Ctrl + Break key, you will get the prompt to end the operation.
