Windows 10: Why are my documents saving to my desktop?

I have something unusual going on that I can't figure out. This started a couple of weeks ago and took me until today to even figure out what the problem is. I have had several times that I would save a file then reopen it to find that it didn't save the latest information that I wrote into the file. I finally figured out what the problem is. The file is sometimes saved to the desktop instead of my documents. What do I need to do to ensure that my documents are always saved to my documents and never to my desktop?

That's a different question.
You want to know how to change the default.
Only by 'relocating' your user Documents folder to your Desktop. Move Location of Documents Folder - TenForumsTutorials but it seems a very big step to take just to satisfy WordPad.
I would not be at all surprised to find that somebody has discovered a Registry hack to do what you want more directly & without relocating the Documents folder.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to give permission for entire system, so that you can save the files in photos and documents.

• Right click on the folder and click on properties.
• Click on security tab and select the group\user name.
• Click on edit option and check the option full control.
• Click on apply and then on ok button.

Now you can try saving the file in photos and documents and check if the issue persists.

• Copy the scanned document.
• Open Word, then paste it.
• Click File > Save As > Choose the location where you want to save it.
• On Save as type, choose PDF > Save.
