Windows 10: Why are my Windows 11 desktop apps moving and deleting png icons whenever i turn my monitor on

Whenever I go to use my PC at home or turn it on, recently as in the last two months my apps have been shifted around whenever I do so. It wasn’t a big deal until as of today my app icons are being deleted and i’m worried will become corrupted as well.

That's because your resolution is changing each time. To test, try setting to 1024x768, arrange a couple of icons and then restart the PC. As long as the resolution after startup is still 1024x768, then the icons won't move. Trust me. *Wink

I see. I was using a 23" monitor before and the highest resolution was below 1080p so I guess windows remembers that monitors resolution right? I have tried de.das.dude suggestion, but everytime I turn off the computer after arranging the icons it goes back to misarranging the icons.

 

Windows 11 Desktop icons keep moving to my second monitor

Recently, all of my desktop icons have started moving to my second monitor even though my main monitor is set as my main monitor under Windows 11 settings. I currently have my main monitor set at 1920x1080 @ 100% zoom in Windows settings and my second monitor at 3840x2160 @ 200% zoom in Windows settings. When it's like this all of my icons are on my secondary monitor for no reason. Interestingly, when I change my second monitor to 175% zoom the icons go back to where they should be. I would like my scale at 200% though, as it was before.

I've been running my monitors how I described them above for a while with no issues at all before this. I've tried:

- Turning auto arrange icons off and on (retarting Windows every time)

- Deleting the icon cache folder (restarted Windows)

- Turning off extended displays and turning it back on to see if anything changed

- Setting my other monitor as my main and then switching it back (restarting Windows in the process)

- Making sure Windows is completely up to date

- Turned off "allow themes to change desktop icons"

Any help would be appreciated. Maybe this is a bug that will be fixed in the next update.
