    Why are Natural Voices only available for Narrator and not for Text to Speech?


    The natural voices available for Narrator should also be available for standard Text to Speech. For example, I may have Aria reading to me in Narrator, but if I use the TTS feature in Kindle for PC, it can only be David or Zira. No natural voices downloads seem to be available for TTS and I'd rather not use a third party app. What can be done?

    Problem adding french voice in Narrator

    Have latest version of Windows 10, have downloaded and installed the "Francais (Canada)" language pack (in settings - region and language - add a language). French can now be used as the windows display language.

    Next I installed the french text to speech engine and the Harmonie voice with the following steps:

    Downloaded and installed MSSpeech_SR_fr-CA_TELE.msi

    Downloaded and installed MSSpeech_TTS_fr_CA_Harmonie.msi

    Restart computer

    Control panel - programs and features, shows following entries:

    Microsoft Server Speech Recognition Language - TELE (fr-CA) ver: 10.0.7135.0

    Microsoft Server Speech Text to Speech Voice (fr-CA, Harmonie) ver: 11.0.7400.335

    Settings - Time and Language - Speech – Speech language, only language available is “English (United States)”.

    Settings - Ease of Access - Narrator - Voice, only voices available are “Microsoft David Desktop” and “Microsoft Zira Desktop”.

    My question/problem: Is it possible to make "Francais (Canada)" available in the menu to select the speech language? Is it possible to make the Harmonie voice available in the narrator voice menu?

    how can you change the alert voice (text to speech) default?

    You can change the voice chosen in:-
    Settings,
    Time & language,
    Speech,
    sub-heading - Voices,
    dropdown list - Choose a voice.

    If necessary, you can also add voices using a combination of the items under the sub-headings Manage voices & Installed voice packages.
    - There is a reference list of language voices at Appendix A Supported languages and voices in Narrator - Windows Help

    Hello Jeff,

    The voices that appear under the Voice selection option on Control Panel is what is currently available on your system. If you would like to get additional voices, kindly refer to this article for steps on how to download new available updates:
    Appendix C: TTS voices.
