Windows 10: Why are the Icons for my PDF files showing only black and white icons?

Just opened my File Explorer to find that all of my PDF files icons were different. The files can be opened, there is no problem with accessing the files, just wondering what made the icons change. I've always used Edge to open my PDFs, so I don't see an issue with that. The icons are just distracting me, and I would like to understand what changed it. Thanks!

Adobe Icon

The icon now showing on all my PDF's is now a white rectangle outlined in red with the Adobe symbol in red in the middle and the letters PDF below.

I have tried changing the icon via the shortcut under Adobe properties. The icon to select looks like what I want...box outlined in red, black background, and the adobe symbol in white, without the "PDF" below it.

How can I get the icon to be what I want it to be, what shows in the list. By the way, it is the only icon which shows in the list, coming from the file

Pdf files show as black icons on my desktop.

After having installed Windows 10 Upgrade my .pdf file icons on my desktop appear black. When i first boot the machine, the .pdf files appear okay. However, within 1 second after boot is complete the icons turn black. This only affects the .pdf files.
I have Adobe Reader XI Veer. 11.101.2 installed on my machine.

Actually its not completely solved, after doing what i said, whenever i reboot, the icons become black again. And when i use temp02's method of rebuilding the icon cache, it fixes it till the next reboot. Anyone know how to fix this? or perhaps i should like make a .bat file of this command and put it to startup?
