Windows 10: Why are the RDP Sessions failing randomly?

A user of mine has had persistent connection issues with RDP sessions over a VPN. Here is some info/context for the situation:-User has Windows 10 Pro.-Uses OpenVPN as a VPN method.-Both TCP and UDP are enabled for RDP connection on the traditional RDP port.-They are connected via Wi-Fi to their router; internet speeds seem to be pretty good after several tests.-I've had them connect to other devices on the network and they experience the same issue.-They've been utilizing the same VPN for a long time now, other users also do not experience this issue while using RDP from a VPN. RDP session appears to be hanging up

I have a workstation that auto updated from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

I RDP into a Windows 2019 server daily.

As I am using the RDP session, several times a day things will become unresponsive. This ranges from the operating system not recognizing when I press the windows key to not being able to click on anything within my programs.

If I close the RDP session then reconnect, I am able to return to using my programs. Simple things like pressing the Windows Key work again to open the start menu.

My assumption is this is with the RDP system since if I close the session and connect a new one, things work again. The server OS is still functioning and my programs are still running.

Note: these computers are not part of a domain. I am using a simple Windows workgroup to network these two computers.

Any ideas or suggestions on where to look for the hangup? Could it be an incompatibility between the RDP client of Windows 11 and the Windows Server 2019 OS?

RDP: failed to reconnect to your remote session after creators update

Hi Guys,

After the creators update last week, i'm unable to reconnect using RDP.

I'm able to login in once via RDP. When i reconnect, the RDP client just gives the error: Failed to reconnect to your remote session.

On the target machine, a corresponding error is logged in the event viewer:

Event-ID: 4005 (qualifier: 49152)

Message: The Windows log-on process has unexpectedly terminated.

I'm able to physically login on the target machine, so it seems something practically wrong with RDP.

Currently the machine is running version 1703 (build 15063.483) win 10 pro

I’ve seen some posts with similar issues, which suggest following resolutions

- to reset the font-scaling to 100% (as I’m running on 150%)

- disable new loginUI via the registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\TestHooks\Threshold=0 (which didn’t exist). Also tried adding the key DUIMode=0
and disabling XamlCredUIAvailable

But unfortunate none of these suggestions seem to resolve the issue.

I’ve also contact Support, which suggested to run a windows repair, which seems a last resort, and provides no guarantees this issue will be resolved. For reference they gave me this id: 1393780111

RDP session

I have a video wall with 10 screens and I am using windows 10 enterprise, I can't span an RDP session to another screen it seems to be locked to the main screen
