Windows 10: why aren’t any of my apps or start menu working

hello so my laptop can start up normally but when I open it up it just shows my background but I can’t open any apps or files let alone the start button I literally can’t do anything I tried using the system restore but that didn’t work aswell it said I had no issues but I have big issues with this laptop of mine whenever I want to click on a file it shows a error and when I managed to open my files I clicked on a photo I had but it showed a error saying I don’t have it , I’m really confused at this point and want some guidance please , I tried to reinstall missing files through the cmd termin

The native apps from the system are all showing this strange square instead of the normal icons. Please help resolve this problem. Thanks

I have the critical error message at startup. CRITICAL ERROR START MENU AND CORTANA AREN`T WORKING will try and correct next time you sign in. Sign out now

The same message appears next time

I sign in. It is impossible to get past this screen as you have no start menu. Any help would be appreciated

Do the apps work fine apart form the icons not displaying correctly? If so I would suggest you to run an SFC scan and check if it helps. If the issue persists you may run DISM command and check.

Follow this steps:

    Press Windows+X.
    
  • 
    Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
    
  • 
    Type the command SFC /SCANNOW and
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit
    Enter.
