  1. Why can I delete files marked as read only in Windows 10?

I have a number of files that I want to protect from accidental deletion. I have tried marking them as read only by checking the "<Right click> - General -> Attributes -> read only box. It shows as read only when I look at the attributes, but I can still delete these files selecting the file in explorer and pressing the delete button, right clicking on the file in explorer and then selecting delete, or selecting the file and clicking the delete button in explorer. Why isn't the read only attribute protecting it from deletion? Is there some other way I can safeguard these files?

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  3. Windows 10 File and folder actions are not saved

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I regret the inconvenience caused to you. Let me help you resolve the issue.

    Please share the details.

    • What is the make and model of your computer?

    • Can you see any error message or error code on the screen?

    Step 1:

Try to delete the file in Safe mode and check whether you are able to delete the file or not. Follow the steps mentioned below.

    • Restart the computer and keep tapping F8 till you reach the boot menu.

    • Select Safe mode from the list and press Enter.

    • Now try to delete the file in safe mode and check.

    Step 2:

Check whether the file that you are trying to delete is a read only file. Follow the steps mentioned below.

    • Right click on the file and click on Properties.

    • In the general tab check whether there is a check mark place near Read only.

    • If there is a check mark, then I would suggest you remove the check mark by clicking on the check box.

    • Click on Apply and then Ok.

    • Then try to uninstall the file and check.
For further reference, check the article mentioned below.

    • Right click on the file and click on Properties.

    • Click on the security tab and click on the administrator’s name.

    • Give full access to the file (your user name).

    • Now delete the file and check whether the issue is resolved.
Check the article given below to know about permissions.
