Windows 10: Why can I no longer customize my taskbar color?

After the recent Windows 11 Home update 3/17/23, my taskbar color changed without prompting. Now I can't change it back because the option has been greyed out. Changing to Windows dark mode does not fix the issue; the taskbar color is not the same color that I choose.Why have my abilities to customize my Windows colors been limited? In the next update, this needs to be remedied.

Hi,

Taskbar color choices are extremely limited in W10, very difficult to read tabs. What is wrong with MS.....?

I tried run<"control color">, but it was useless as well.

Is there any external tools that will allow me to customize taskbar color independently from accent colors and borders.

I saw some suggestions to modify registry, but I do not want to go this route.

Custom Color for Taskbar in Windows 10

I want to change the color of the Windows 10 taskbar, but DO NOT want any of the colors in the defaults they supply in the Personalization menu. I have trouble seeing icons and/or dark text (or white text) on a dark background. I want to set the taskbar
color to a light gray (about 30-35% black). In fact, I want my entire screen to be light gray with black text. How do I get a light gray color to show up as the background for my Windows 10 taskbar?

I have looked on the internet and found several solutions that should work (I've had to customize this in almost every Windows upgrade), but it seems the fixes I found no longer work after the November update?

Just to verify, have you tried changing the color of your taskbar via settings? If so, try it out and check if the color would remain inconsistent. Here are the steps:

1. Launch the Settings app.
2. Select Personalization.
3. Click the Colors tab.
4. Uncheck the Automatically pick an accent color from my background.
5. Set Transparency effects to Off.
6. Under Show accent color on the following surfaces, put a check on
   Start, taskbar, and action center.
7. Pick a color that you want.
8. Restart your PC.
