Why can one ONLY make a Windows-10 "repair disk" to a CD/DVD drive?

There is no way one can make a "repair disk" to a USB thumb drive. If true, tell us.If false, come up with a method that does work and has been tested. I will then do it.All the methods shown to create a "repair disk" display an error message..."insert CD/DVD..."All the articles, even those from Microsoft that claim to make a "repair disk" immediately use the word "recovery." "Repair" is NOT the same as "recovery," so why are those two terms being used in the same article.

    :)

how do I open the cd/dvd disk drive on the back of the HP envy all-in-one?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

For better clarity, please let us know:

    • When you say, “how do I open the cd/dvd disk drive on the back” are you not able to open the drive to enter a disk or trying to replace the drive?
    • What is the exact model number of the HP Envy PC that you are using? To check type:
msinfo32 in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
      Enter.

If the CD/DVD drive is not getting detected on the computer, I would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned in the HP article
HP PCs - CD/DVD Drive Is Not Detected (Windows 10, 8).

If you are unable to burn CD/DVD using the drive, I suggest you to refer the steps mentioned in the HP article

HP PCs - CD or DVD Drive Cannot Burn Discs (Windows 10, 8)
    .

Please provide more information on the issue that you are facing to help you with the appropriate steps.

    Regards,

    Nikhar Khare

Windows 7 Professional keeps dropping the DVD/CD drive

Working with a fresh install (2nd attempt) of Windows 7 Professional on new hardware. The motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. Running 4G of RAM and an Intel Q9400 Quad Core CPU. The DVD/CD optical drive is a Pioneer DVR-218L.

Here's the problem - after two fresh installs, Windows 7 drops the DVD/CD drive and I get the following error in Device Manager (The device cannot start {code 10}). After the install, the drive works for a period of time, then stops working and I get the error code.

The driver appears to be a standard Windows driver (CD-ROM driver).

I've tried uninstalling the drive and re-installing it in Device Manager but it does not work - I continue to get the device error.

I've also swapped out the DVD/CD drive to insure it's not a bad unit. Same problem with both drives.

What do you suggest for next steps?? Could it be an issue with the motherboard?? A driver problem?

I visited the Pioneer web site - could not find any help or additional Windows 7 drivers.

    What now??
