    Why can one solve the "Read only" problem on a whole HDD by installing Malwarebytes?


    Two of the 3 drives of my Windows 11 PC not the C: or system drive but even a external HDD, had become "read-only", with Windows telling me I didn't have the relevant rights. But I had all the rights as administrator and still have. It was exhausting to try to solve this and seeing the remarks here and on other sites I am not the only one to suffer. I tried many of the Windows UAC management related suggestions to change thing but nothing worked.Until I happened to read a remark on an obscure forum that someone had managed to solve the problem was solved by installing Malwarebytes I am NOT

    Slow HDD read and write speeds

    Hi,

    Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    We will require a few more information from you to help you further with the issue. Please reply with the following details:

    • In which device are you facing this issue?
    • Are you using an external HDD or internal HDD?
    • Are you getting the read and write speed issue on any particular application?

    However, you can Disk Defragment on your computer to optimize the drive. To run Disk Defragment please follow the steps from the article

    Defragment your Windows 10 PC    .

    Alternatively, you can check for the read and write speed of the HDD in task manager. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check the read and write speed of the hard drive:

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc key together on the keyboard.
    2. Click on Performance tab.
    3. Click on Disk 0.
    4. You will find the Read speed and
      Write speed       at the bottom of the window.

    Problem Solved - Installed

    I followed the steps, booting from the DVD drive that had the Windows 10 program.
    I did the disk partition command and then the List Disk.
    It showed 0-5 partitions, with Disk 0 online with 931 GB; all the others were empty
    I then did the Select disk 0
    It then had a load of disk routines, but not the Clean option
    I tried Clean Disk 0 and it produced an error

    As this was all during the Windows Installation routine (while online), would it be better to clean the entire HDD before running the DVD installation? Or Wipe? Remember, I'm on a dual boot Linux Mint / corrupted Win10 HDD
