Why can't "File History" backup the ADS attributes of an NTFS file as well?

As an example, if I downloaded a file with the MotW Zone.Identifier and this was subsequently backed up by File History, and then I deleted the file without ever opening it, emptied the recycle.bin and later realised that I need the file, so restored it from File History, the MotW has now disappeared, therefore not protecting me from any malicious content. It is by design to strip off ADS content?Mike40450239

  2. File History is On?

    Hi candun,

I'm from the File History team.

What kind of drive (NAS, external hard drive, network) are you using for your File History backup?

We've identified an issue with using ext3 file system based backup target for File History and are working on a fix for it. If your backup target has ext3 file system on it, we suggest moving to a NTFS file system based backup target in the meantime.

    Thanks,

    Anand.

    File History restart

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

To change the backup drive for File History, the current process should be stopped. I suggest you to try the steps listed below to stop file history on an older drive and restart it on a new drive:

    Change File History backup drive:

    • Open Settings and navigate to Update & Security > Backup.
    • Click on More Options, scroll down to locate
Backup to a different drive section, and choose Stop Using Drive.
    • Plug in the new storage drive, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Backup,
      and choose Add a Drive.
    • Restart File History and configure it by referring to the article

    Hope it helps.
