Windows 10: Why can't I download Whatsapp for PC unless I allow Microsoft to put updates on my PC?

I've happily run Whatsapp on my desktop, then it all changed and I had to download it from Microsoft store. However, it won't download *unless* I change my computer to allow updates which I do not want.This is wrong on so many levels. I'm happy with how my computer works. I don't *want* anything updated because when I had laptops, every time there was an update, the hard drive failed and I got 'the blue screen of death' This meant I lost all my personal stuff, and I had to pay lots of money for a repair, or buy another laptop. Which made me believe that this was deliberate, and a means to crea
