  1. Why can't I eject a disk using a rightclick in Windows Explorer?

Like honestly, it really does seem that the engineers and developpers at Microsoft do not actually USE the products they make. THis is such a small issue but shows a larger problem: no one at microsoft gives a ****.Why can't I simply eject a disk by right clicking on it in Windows Explorer? I swear this *used* to be a feature, until Windows 11. Honestly, it wouldn't be hard at all to have a little "eject" option. Instead you choose to bury the option in the taskbar. Why? What is the actual design purpose for that?Like honestly if I made a product that caused even 5% of the frustration Windows

    :)

Missing Eject in "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" List

    Hi Tze Lin Wong,

The configuration to this can be found under settings. To enable this feature follow these steps:

    1. Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
    2. Under Notification Area, choose
Select which icons appear on the taskbar.
    3. Scroll to Windows Explorer: Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media
      and turn it on.

If this doesn't work, I suggest that you check with your USB drive manufacturer for new drivers or other updates.

    All the best.

  3. disk eject

    Hi Linda,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

The eject option is still available in Windows 10. Are you referring to DVD drive or USB drive?

I suggest you to run hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps.

    • Type Troubleshooting in the search box and hit enter.
    • Click on Troubleshooting tab.
    • Click on view all option on the upper left corner.
    • Select the Hardware and Device options from the list.

Get back with updated status. We’ll be glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

Windows10 randomly refuses to safely eject external disks

    Hello there,

More than 11 months ago I expose in these forums some problems in Windows10.

One of them is the denial to safely eject external disks.

Here is what happens: I connect one of my external disks to my pc, then I move/copy/delete/edit/view some files, and later, after closing EVERYTHING, Windows10 refuses to safely eject my disk. It replies, "Windows can't stop your 'Volume' device because
a program is still using it
    ".

Windows doesn't tell me what program is employing my drive. And I know for sure there is nothing employing it.

That issue happens randomly. I mean, sometimes I can safely eject the disk, and sometimes I cannot.

Today I downloaded from Microsoft the app named "procexp64.exe" which showed me what is employing my external disk.

And, they are Windows processes only!

Let's say my disk's root ID is "M:\"

    The Process Explorer found:

    • Four "system" processes with open files in M:\$Extend\$RmMetadata\$Txf.........
    • Two "explorer" processes with open directory M:\

Hence, Windows doesn't allow me to safely eject my external disk because Windows forgot it was itself the one using my disk!

Almost 1 year has passed, and the issue still persists.

    Annoying!
