Windows 10: Why can't I remove my documents folder from controlled access?

As you can see, the option to remove it is grayed out. How do I change it so that I can remove it?

I am sorry, it is not possible to remove the Documents library folder from the list of protected folders in Controlled Folder Access, in fact that is the most important folder to protect from Ransomware . . .

Honestly, your best option is to just add an exception fro each game folder, it is a bit of a mess having to do that, but this will ensure the safety of your system . . .

Why is it important? It doesnt contain anything but game files... I dont save my stuff there.

Is there any way to contact Windows Defender Support to ask them to make this folder removable? I know there is dumb people that removes it and actually saves stuff there, but this is not the case.

Maybe a option might be added to remove the Documents folder if you agree that is a important folder and that you are sure of what you're doing.

Plus, is better to atleast have it enabled than nothing. I cant even enable the ransomware protection because of this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

• I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

• Then I tried to remove the Pictures folder with option one at Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Even after rebooting, the Pictures folder remained.
• So I tried using option two. Same thing: reboot >> Pictures folder still there.

• Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.

That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.
