Windows 10: Why can't I run programs on my windows 10 pro?

I have recently bought a new laptop and got windows 10 installed on it. However, some games cannot run on it. I try to start them and then they just won't open. I tried checking their compatibility and my options were: windows 8, windows 7, windows vista and windows xp. I don't know if this is the source of the problem, but I cannot think of anything else. The laptop itself is strong, and it should be able to run them but, again, they won't even start.

program that ran on Windows 8.1 pro will not run on Windows 10

I am running Wilcom Embroidery Studio e2 on my desktop running Windows 8.1 pro.

When I installed Windows 10 Pro the above mentioned program refuses to run.

Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the program listed above is very expensive to replace with a newer version of that program.

Is there an emulation mode that will allow older programs that will run on Windows 8.1 pro to run also on Windows 10 pro?

 

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.
