Windows 10: Why cant I set my ETHERNET network to private in windows 11?

Hi.When I try to connect my computers to a home network over ethernet, the computers are unable to see each other, and I cannot share my internet connection over WiFi via Ethernet.I also cannot set my ethernet network to private, which is annoying and a problem.Help would be appreciated.I am using a tp-link 5 port unmanaged switch, TL-SG105S.Both computers are new.One is an HP Pavilion.The other is a Cepter all in one.Both have ethernet ports and they are both enabled.

configure two network type wifi public and Ethernet private


Hello,

I have two network adapters in Windows 10 one wifi for connecting to internet and one Ethernet for local network.
I need to configure wifi adapter to public network and Ethernet to private network but i can't.

Inverse it work ( wifi to private and Ethernet to public ) but I don't need that.
(only wifi adapter have option to be discoverable by others pd in Network Settings -> advanced options )


I need to share files by Ethernet AND NOT by wifi.

Any suggestion?

Windows 10: How to make Private Network enabled

Hi Jeff,

To change the network from public to private or vice versa, I would suggest you to try the steps below and check:

1. Press Windows key + I to open settings.

2. Click "network and internet".

3. If you are using Ethernet, click "Ethernet" and click on the network.

4. Enable the "make this pc discoverable" option to change the network to private.

Let us know the result.

 

Cannot select, Private, in Settings>Network & Internet>Ethernet>Ethernet Connected>Network Profile

I cannot select the Private radio button, in Settings>Network & Internet>Ethernet>Ethernet Connected>Network Profile. The Network Profile, Public, radio button is selected when I get there. When I click to select the Private button, the public button is unselected AND the private button remains unselected! The private button is never selected after waiting for minutes and the public button remains unselected as well. I finally have to close this window. When I return here, the private button is selected once again.

I have three Windows 10 at 21H1 or 21H2. Two easily switched to private network, one is Win10 Home, and the other is Win10 Pro. The one that fails is Win10 Home 21H2 and failed when it was Win 10 21H1.

I am interested in finding a solution or remedy. The computer runs very well otherwise but I want it visible, discovery is active, in the private network workgroup.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

My final solution would be to install a fresh coy of Win 10 or forget about it and move on.
