  1. Why can't my monitor resolution be adjusted any higher than 1920x1080 after the last system...

I have a Dell Latitude 5420 and an LG 34 inch ultra widescreen monitor. I am using a 4k HDMI capable dock and an HDMI 2.0 cable and the equipment has not been changed. Before I installed the last system update on 10/31/2022, my screen resolution was set to 2560 x 1080 and worked with no issues. After the update completed, the maximum resolution presented is 1920x1080. The device manager showed the monitor listed as a generic, so I installed the driver for the specific monitor model LG 34WL60TM-B.AUS and power cycled, but the max resolution is still stuck at 1920x1080. I am not presented

    :)

How to make desktop a higher resolution than my monitor's?

I want my desktop to be higher resolution than my monitor's; for example a desktop that is 2560x1024 with a monitor that is 1920x1080. The desktop would slide appropriately when the mouse gets to the edges; or scroll bars (like) if when you remote desktop
with a larger resolution than the monitor remoting from.

  3. Resolution Issues - 3840x2160 Recommended, 1920x1080 Missing

    Okay,

I've posted this issue with MSI and with NVidia, but when in doubt all configurations do tend to fall back on the operating system, which in this case is Windows 10 Pro.

I just got a 4K capable, VR ready gaming laptop. (MSI GT75 Titan-4k071 8RG) It is great, and gaming with it is phenomenal.

However, there is a weird behavior. It natively boots to the 3840x2160 resolution. That is the windows recommended resolution. However, I have found that the DPI compatibility issues between windows and many current software products makes it a bit unusable
for regular operations. From 640x480, to 1024x768, even unto 1920x1080 I have never had to adjust the DPI to anything but 100%, but the 4k super hi res is practically unreadable even in File Explorer. Perhaps this will adjust with time, as such things do
with all newer technology. But for now, most of the applications I use act very volatile when using the DPI settings of 200% to make the screen readable, even with recommended Windows "Compatibility" in operation. When I want to play a game in the higher
4k res, no problem, but for everyday use, logging into work, writing code, and so on, I quite prefer the 1920x1080 resolution.

That's where the issue arises. When I boot up the laptop, that resolution is not present. I have available to me 3840x2160, 1900x1440, 1900x1200, and then 1680x1050 and lower resolutions. But not 1920x1080.

The moment I plug my HDTV into the external HDMI port for dual monitors - an HDTV which natively supports 1920x1080 and can go no higher - the system automatically recognizes it, and the 1920x1080 resolution suddenly becomes available for
both monitors. Once I disconnect the TV, however, the 1920x1080 resolution disappears again, and my laptop monitor reverts to the 3840x2160 resolution.

This seems extremely odd. If it can support the resolution with the TV plugged in to the HDMI port, it should be able to support it when the TV isn't plugged in.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks
