Windows 10: Why can't updates provide time estimates so that you can plan?

Tonight, I saw a notification that my Windows 10 machine needed a restart. I blew away about an hour waiting for it to finish. They don't all take that long, so tonight's was exceptional. I really couldn't afford to have lost the night, but I didn't want yet another to-do to keep track of. So I bit the bullet, shut down all apps, and "restarted". I didn't realize that it would take in the order of an hour.We have had decades of experience with Windows of various versions and updates. It seems to be a no-brainer to track a machine's history of updates and predict the time taken for a give

I suggest you to reset and restore all of the default Power Plans back with their default settings and check if it helps.

Follow the steps.

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Select Command Prompt (Admin).
• At the command prompt, type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes, and then press
  ENTER.
• At the command prompt, type exit to exit the Command Prompt window.
• Restart the computer and check with the issue.

Battery on taskbar not showing estimated time left after updating to Creators Update

Hello,

We understand that the issue also happened after doing the latest Creator's Update. You can check out the steps below to resolve the issue:

• Make sure your device has applied the latest firmware/BIOS from your manufacturer and all drivers are up-to-date.
  
• Restart the PC and boot to the BIOS menu. For example, use Esc+F10 on Spectre x360. Hit the ESC key until you see the HP logo, and then press F10 to select the BIOS Setup.
• Use the right arrow key to change to the System Configuration tab, select the Battery Remaining Time option, press Enter and select the Enable, then press F10 to save all changes and exit BIOS. Once you login system, Windows 10 will take time to calibrate
  the estimate and then display the status information normally.
