Why can't we be warned about how long an update will take?

I know that there are too many variables to give any accurate time for any process - e.g. a Windows Update. But it would be nice to be given a clue.

Earlier this week Windows prompted for an update - but there was no Update and Shut Sown option which I always take just before I go to bed. The option was Update and Restart. I was going out on an errand so took the option thinking it would all be done by the time I returned. But it is over two hours now and it is saying only 27% done - so at this rate it is going to take over 8 hours.

If I had been warned in advance I would have clicked the option and gone to bed.

So please include some sort of warning if it is expected to take a long time.

    :)

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Why can't we be warned about how long an update will take? :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
