  1. Why Desktop Window Manager is consuming so many resources?

Hello everybody.About a few months back I started to notice that Desktop Window Manager started to consume an awful amount of resources, going from 30% use of the primary GPU to 50% and in some brief instances 80%.It was so bad I honestly thought I had a crypto miner running, so I ran Windows Security and MBAM for a complete sweep , each once but separately. After finding nothing and using Procexp to see if there was anything out of the ordinary I decided to go for a fresh install and that seem to have solved things but after updating again I see this extraordinary waste of resources from

Put processes that consume a lot of resource on the top of the list in Task Mananger

A main use of Task Manager is to find which program is consuming resources. Now we need to sort by CPU/sort by Disk/sort By network to find the problem. Its better if list all the huge resource consuming programs at the top of the list what ever the resource
is so we don't need to sort in most cases.

    Cursor lagging on my desktop

    Hi Charlie,

To help you with your concern, we'd like to suggest checking if there are unwanted applications running in the background. To check this, follow these steps below:

    • Right-click on your Start Menu button on the Taskbar.
    • Click Task Manager
    • Under Processes, close any applications that are running in the background that are consuming resources on your laptop. Select the program and then click
      End Task.
    • Next click the Details tab, choose the program that is consuming a lot of memory on your computer and then press
      End Task.
    • Check if the cursor is responding slowly.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Why Desktop Window Manager is consuming so many resources?

Desktop Window Manager is completely consuming my GPU. Any actual fixes?

I've only recently had this issue where the service is taking up all of my GPU's resources and seriously killing my laptop's performance.

The issue regardless of what I'm doing. Playing a game or working in word, I've already looked around and none of the common solutions have fixed the issue.

I'm running a mid to low spec system:

    • I5 Processor 9th gen.
    • 24GB DDR4 RAM
    • 500GB SSD connected through M.2
    • Nvidia GTX 1650 connected through PCI-e

    Attempts to solve it:

    • Lower DWM priority through Task Manager - The service turned itself back up without my knowledge and continued to consume GPU resources.
    • Update apps and drivers - Already done weekly through routine and I've already checked all apps for updates.
    • Reinstall windows - Did that too. shortly after updates came in issue came back.
    • Tried running different games all ran smoothly up until now.

Anybody with advice would greatly be appreciated.
