Windows 10: Why did Media Creation Tool deleted my 4TB external drive?

continued from post question: I had the drive set up with multiple drives. I assigned Media Creation Tool to drive, ie. H:. I returned to the Ext Storage Space, only to find it is now drive D:, 32GB storage space. "WARNING" Everything to this drive letter will be erased this action can not be undone, click to continue. reaction= Click. That is what I am wanting to happen. I am formatting a space on the disk fora Win-VM. Assumption, everything in this drive actually meant everything attached to the port that was connecting the external drive. Media Creation Tool and Data Loss

Could someone please tell me how the Media Creation Tool selects the Flash drive for its use. I was creating a bootable USB drive for Windows 10 on a PC that had two removable drives in it. One was the 32GB USB flash drive I intended to use while the other
was an 8TB Seagate external hard drive I had approximately 4TB of archived data on. I started the creation tool and progressed to the point it presented the external drives it could see. At this point I was called away for 10 to 15 minutes. I came back
to see that the USB drive was complete and ready to use. The only problem was rather than using the 32GB flash drive as I had intended it had formatted and overwritten the 8TB external hard drive.

Buried underneath onscreen windows were several prompts about needing to format Drive G (the Seagate drive). So, apparently it grew tired of waiting and proceeded on its own. This is a MAJOR incident of data loss. Why did the creation tool make its own
choice about what drive to use? Why did it not wait for user input? I lost 4TB of very important data because of this and only hope data recovery can recoup at least some of it.

 

Windows 10 Media Create Tool Download on 4TB External Hard Drive

I have 4TB external hard drive where i save all my documents, videos, photos, files and just everything important to me in it.

Last night I downloaded the Media Creation Tool to windows 10 in order to restore my computer to the factory setting which it required 32 GB. I decided to save the Media Creation Tool folders in my external hard drive (and now forever regret it).

Long story short I am in the same situation that Barsha was in this thread: Redirecting

I have also visited a lot of threads but there was no definite answer to it. I did research on data recovery software and got mixed reviews from people who have tried it (EaseUs). I asked some of my technician friends and they said there is a chance the
data are all gone. I just cannot think straight right now. Can somebody help troubleshoot and advise the next steps please? I know I am at fault but I have a lot of sentimental files on it from my family and I would like to recover them all!
