But here goes...Why is Microsoft Windows 11 'S Mode', BURIED, so DEEP in the Windows 11 operating system, to the extent that it cannot be found, and switched off?Really hoping for an answer; But I'm not expecting you actually provide one; But I'm 68 years old, and I been an transfemoral Amputee That means, my LEFT LEG was AMPUTATED, at Mid-thigh, when I was 14 years old, back in

Why did Microsoft BURY "S Mode" in Windows 11, so that it's PREVENTED from being SHUT OFF?

No one here is Microsoft, we are mostly volunteer users like you (I'm only a year younger, but I've been using and supporting computers since the late 70'S) and I went to a technical school here in the US with quite a few people of African descent, including a few directly from South Africa and Lesotho, among others. And the last decade or two, most of those developing Microsoft apps and Windows have been from countries all over the world, including many in Asia and South America, though I'm less aware about Africa, quite a few of whom I worked with personally.

S Mode isn't "buried deep" in Windows, it simply removes or leaves out most of the legacy (Microsoft calls them "Classic") components of Windows that are vulnerable to malware or other types of attack. So, in reality, S Mode is the 'lack of' these legacy, vulnerable components that most Windows users would be better off not having.

However, since due to foot dragging by quite a few old PC app developers, there are many outdated applications still around that won't work properly with S Mode, since they need to be written to modern standards, which for some reason these (sometimes dead) people won't do. For that reason, Microsoft has always provided, advertised and supported a relatively simple way to "upgrade" your device (I personally consider it a downgrade for less knowledgeable people, but that's only my opinion) to the legacy, "classic" mode that contains the outdated garbage that's required to keep those outdated programs working.

In the following FAQ document about S Mode, the 2nd item listed below the first full paragraph titled; "How do I switch out of S mode?" tells you how to do that.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 in S mode FAQ - Microsoft Support

Basically, this process reinstalls or enables the legacy components of Windows that S Mode left out, making it the equivalent of the Windows Home that you'd have gotten in the past.

Really hoping for an answer; But I'm not expecting you actually provide one; But I'm 68 years old, and I been an transfemoral Amputee (That means, my LEFT LEG was AMPUTATED, at Mid-thigh, when I was 14 years old, back in 1970); I'm betting that I'll regenerate my amputated leg, before you'll answer this question.

Windows 11 disaster. Can't enter PIN, locked in safe mode and BSOD prevents many solutions

    Hi pepebeto66,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're dealing with a series of complex issues on your Lenovo Ideapad 3 running Windows 11. Let's break down the situation and explore some potential solutions:

    1. PIN Issue in Safe Mode: It's a known issue that PIN login might not work in Safe Mode for Windows 11. This is why it's generally recommended to have a password backup. However, since you're already in this situation, we need to find a workaround.
    2. Accessing Advanced Startup Options Leading to BSOD: The DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error suggests there might be a driver issue, possibly exacerbated by the Driver Verifier tool.
    3. Issues with Windows 11 Installation USB: If the Windows installation media isn't working, there could be several reasons, such as the USB drive not being properly formatted or the installation media not being correctly created.
Given these challenges, here are some steps you can try:

Escaping Safe Mode and Resolving PIN Issue

    1. Force Windows to Exit Safe Mode:
      • Repeatedly interrupt the boot process (turn off the laptop as soon as you see the Windows logo) three times in a row. On the fourth boot, Windows should enter Automatic Repair mode.
      • Once in Automatic Repair, navigate to "Troubleshoot" → "Advanced options" → "Startup Settings" → "Restart".
      • After the restart, you'll see a list of options. Select the option to boot Windows normally.
    2. Resetting Your PIN:
      • If you're able to boot into Windows normally, try resetting your PIN through the Accounts settings.
    Addressing the BSOD

    • Disable Driver Verifier:
      • Access Command Prompt from the Advanced Startup Options or Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
      • Type verifier /reset and press Enter. This will reset the Driver Verifier settings which might be causing the BSOD.
Resolving Issues with Windows Installation USB

    • Recreate Installation Media:
      • Use another working computer to download the Windows 11 media creation tool from the official Microsoft website
Thank you for your patience and understanding! If you have any questions, feel free to leave us a message.

    Sincerely
