    Why did my files/documents, including my mail disappear overnight?


    Please let know what would make all my folder and documents disappear overnight. All my files were stored on my computer? Was there something in the last update that would cause this? A search of the C: drive showed none of the missing documents. The restore/recovery also seems to have disappeared.Also my mail has disappeared. I really don't know why I have documents/mail one day and the next day I have lost all my files/documents/mail.

    Files disappearing from my Documents folder

    Yesterday I found that certain files had disappeared from my Documents folder. Some, but not all, of them had also disappeared from the back-up copies I keep in an external hard drive. I had made no changes to my computer and the files were there the day before.
    I did a normal System Restore but it failed, so I did a System Restore in Safe Mode and this was successful and all the files reappeared.
    Although I no longer have a problem, I am concerned that the same thing might happen again. Can anyone suggest what could have been the cause of the disappearance, please? Windows Defender has not shown up any viruses and I'm at a loss as to what could have happened. Grateful for any suggestions.

    Corrupt Word Document Overnight?

    This is a long shot but I know how Word loves to keep around backup files of documents that are open and sometimes it fails to delete them. Make sure you can view hidden files and check in the directory where the documents are stored for the automatic backup files. If they exist, they might not be corrupt.

    Sorry, thats the best I can do. In all honestly you're probably SOL.

    Why did my files/documents, including my mail disappear overnight?

    Files in Recycle Bin disappear overnight

    I've noticed that files which have been deleted show in the Recycle Bin during the current day. Overnight (I normally leave my PC hibernating overnight) they disappear as if Windows 10 is automatically deleting them. I can't find any setting which enables/disables
    automatic file deletion. I like to keep my deleted files for a few weeks just in case I want to recover them. Can anyone help?
