  1. Why did my HDD not only fail but completely erase itself?

HP AIO w/i5 processor, 8 gb ram, 1tb HDD, Windows 10. Windows Update on 3/6/24. At the end of update I get a screen prompt to restart instead of returning to WU page. I go ahead and restart and when I return the screen is looping between the logo and black. System Check throws a Code 7. The HDD is completely wiped and my mp3 player that was charging is also completely empty. What a day!

    :)

    Finally! An alternative to eraser...

it looks much cleaner then the eraser so that is a big step up.

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Why did my HDD not only fail but completely erase itself? :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

    Hi Johan,

    It is possible that your
    HDD was unreadable
causing the error message to appear. We recommend that you perform these troubleshooting steps and check if there are any changes:

    • Shutdown
      your
      PC.

    • Unhooked
      the
      HDD
      and
      turn on
      your
      PC.

    • Reconnect
      your
      HDD
      and
      restart
      your
      PC.

If the issue persists, we suggest that you contact your
    laptop/computer's manufacturer
    for further assistance.

Update us on how it goes.

    Regards.
