    Why did this one exe NOT get blocked from running by user account control?


    On my Windows 10 Pro build 19042, the 'user account control' dialog usually blocks any exe I try to run.However, yesterday I accidentally double clicked a suspicious file without noticing that it's an exe, and it just started running without anything blocking it!It opened a window called "Setup.exe" and I closed it in a panic as fast as I could. It also seems to have been infected with some malware, according to Avast it was over 500mb so I couldn't submit it to virustotal.Since then I tried double clicking a few other setup exe files I have saved in various places, and they were all block

    Hello Ridho,

    To enable the User Account Control (UAC) on Windows 10, please follow these steps:

    • Click the Start button, type UAC.
    • Click Change User Account Control settings.
    • Choose between two options to enable UAC:
      • Notify when apps try to make changes to your computer.
      • Always notify when installing or making any changes to your computer.
    • Click OK.
    • Click Yes or enter your password to finalize the change.
    Steps to disable User Account Control (UAC).

    • Click the Start button, type UAC.
    • Click Change User Account Control settings.
    • Click Yes or enter your password.
    • Set the settings to Never notify.
    • Click OK to save the settings.

    Thank you for getting back to us. Since you've recently updated the privacy settings of your
    User Account Control, let's add the .exe and other file types to your computer policy and see if it fixes the issue. Follow these steps:

    • Right-click the Windows key and click Run.
    • Type in gpedit.msc and hit Enter.
    • Navigate to Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Attachment Manager.
    • On the right pane, double click Inclusion list for low file types and click
      Enable.
    • In the option box, include the following file types: .exe;.bat;.reg;.vbs
    • Click OK.
