  1. Why Did Update KB5036980 of 4/24/24 totally corrupted my dual-drive computer?

This update was labeled as "2024-04 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems KB5036980." One would think that since it specifically "Update Preview" users would see some of the new features of what the actual update would provide, when released.Instead, the night after the update, my entire 1-SSD drive which was the "C:" drive and a hard drive which was the "F" drive, but is now the E: drive. Almost There had been a "D" drive that was the RESTORE drive, but that's gone to. Now the F drive has been turned into RECOVERY drive.I've lost dozens of file photos,

    :)

  2. Windows 10. 12 to 24 hours

    Hi Sandra,

    Follow the steps:

    • Navigate to Control panel.

Win10 Anniversary Update stalls at 24%

I had a SSD Windows 10 version 1511 system, which dual booted from a Windows 8.1 partition on a MBR HDD. When the Anniversary Update installed from Windows Update, the spinning dots would freeze at 24%. When the computer was
hard rebooted, version 1511 was restored.

    1) I read here (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...allation/7af92c16-eba7-41d9-ad35-daab54f69224)
that unplugging power and SATA cables of other drives let the update install.

So I unplugged both the power and SATA cables from the Windows 8.1 HDD, in the UEFI Setup set the SDD to boot, fixed a "Reboot and Select proper Boot device" boot error using bootrec /fixmbr from a Windows 8.1 setup disc, then installed
the Anniversary Update using the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant from
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
/. This time at around 24% received a blue screen Stop Code: CLOCK WATCHDOG TIMEOUT.

    2) Among other suggested solutions to the above error, I read somewhere else that you needed to disconnect all SATA devices other than the one being updated.

So I unplugged the power and SATA cables from my DVD-RW drive (leaving only the SATA SSD connected) and installed the Anniversary Update again using the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant. This time the Anniversary Update installed!

  4. Why Did Update KB5036980 of 4/24/24 totally corrupted my dual-drive computer?

Windows Update Stuck after 24 hrs

Windows initiated an update and after 24 hours, it is still not finished. The screen in black with the spinning dots. It has been this way for over 24 hours with no changes. The last time I had this problem with my other laptop I rebooted the machine
and the OS was corrupted. The computer would not reboot and basically said there was no OS to load. Apparently, it was at some point in the update, stuck, and I killed the operation before it was finished. I ended up losing everything on the hard drive as
a result. So, how do I avoid this now? Just to clarify, I am not logged into Windows. The screen is black with spinning dots. I hope MS can provide some kind of solution to avoid losing my data.
