Windows 10: Why do certain keystrokes toggle audio mute and how to disable this feature?

This question has been asked countless times and so far all the answers have been unsatisfactory. It does NOT seem to be about drivers or configuration settings I've uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled or updated where possible, disabled the various audio or media device options that allegedly causes this problem according to the support replies, switched to different devices and enabled exclusive control over device - the problem has nothing to do with drivers or settings it seems! And advising someone to make a clean install is just a lazy cop-out, without getting to the root cause of the

Mute Toggle Stuck

Hi,

I have been trying to get the toggle to switch from mute, but to no avail. This is on an Alienware laptop with an external monitor via HDMI. When testing sound, laptop speakers get sound, but the monitor does not. Using the sound settings, I can see that the monitor is getting inputs for sound, but is not playing them

Below is what I have tried:

• Check drivers in device manager
  
• Tried fn and the mute button
  
• Tried moving the slider manually, but it switches right back to being muted
  
• When the monitor is unplugged, sound turns on, but when it is plugged back in, it toggles off.
  

Any ideas or thoughts?

 

Disable mute propagation on another audio device

Hello,

I have Windows 10 21H2, OS build 19044.1526.

I observed on this build that when I had an audio device is muted and I connect a new one or switch to another device, the mute is propagated to the new one.

It is possible to disable this feature?

On previous version of Windows build I didn't have this problem.
