Windows 10: Why Do Data Folders Not Remember Screen Positions or Size

Win 11 Build 22631.4460, Version 23H2 with 3 monitors extended desktop. Latest software, firmware, drivers, updates, etc. Do not use any additional monitor profiles / resolutions / configurations etc.I open data folder A, then move it and size it and close it. I open data folder B and it does not remember where it was or what size it was the last time it was closed. It opens up on same monitor at same location and size as data folder A that I just closed.I change data folder B to preferred monitor, screen position and size, and close it.I open data folder A and now it displays on same mo

Nice if Start screen "remembered" its position

This is not really a problem to be solved now, but a suggestion to Microsoft for a future update or version of Windows.

It would be nice if the Start screen remembered its position. For example, if I open the Start screen and scroll down to those applications that start with the letter "W", the next time I open the Start screen, it reverts back to displaying the top of the
list. It would be nice if it "remembered" I was on "W" and opened at that position.

 

Remembering Window Position

I have Windows 11 and cannot save window position and size after shutdown. It will remember when it's opened/closed during the day without shutdown. After re-starting it will open to a fixed prior position, but not the last one prior to shutdown. I have tried all recommended actions on line, tweaking the bagMRU registry setting, "restore previous folder windows at logon" from Folder Options, etc., nothing seems to work. Anyone have suggestions on how to do this so I don't have to adjust window position after startup? Thanks for all suggestions. |

 

Remember Explorer size and position

E.g. Actual Window Manager offers (a complicated) set of options such as

- and this is just one aspect of what it can do... Not free- has lower cost options, subsets of the main program. Autohotkey (free) has many commands focussed on manipulating windows - well documented script tool. As well as simple individual commands, whole programs can be created- it supports the creation of functions, for example. For example, knowing the screen height, the appropriate height parameters could be used in this command and applied to all file explorer windows as they occur:

Clearly this would require a short sequence to get the screen parameters, existing width of file explorer window so only the height was maximised..

Care might be needed to ensure to which instance of file explorer any change was applied- the script would need to run continuously to detect new instances.
