  1. Why do I get a BSOD every time I play a game with my FPS uncapped?

I just built a brand new PC about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I noticed any time i play a game where my GPU is over 85% usage for a long time, I get a blue screen, and it always happens after like 15 minutes, so I lose all the progress with anything I did in the game. I've tried reinstalling drivers using DDU, I've also tried fully resetting the PC and reinstalling Windows, still nothing, I don't think it's a PSU issue, as my PSU is 750 W and I only have a 7900 XT and Ryzen 5 7600X, so it should be enough to power both of them at high loads, and I've stress tested everything in the PC like 10 minute

  3. all games capped at 60 fps in borderless and fullscreen mode, but uncapped when windowes

    Hello Umberto,

Good day! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand you are having an issue where your games are capped at 60 FPS in both borderless and fullscreen modes, but they become uncapped when in windowed mode. Based on the details you provided, it could be possible that the issue is with the game display settings or with the graphics card. Let us check and see what we can do to help resolve your concern.

Here are some steps you can try:

    1. You can try to change the refresh rate of your laptop/PC display to match the game's frame rate limit, or vice versa.

    • To do this, go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings > Display adapter properties > Monitor and select the desired refresh rate from the drop-down menu.
    • Then, launch the game and go to its video settings and adjust the frame rate limit accordingly.

    2. It could be that your laptop is using the integrated graphics card instead of the dedicated one.

    • You can check this by opening the Nvidia Control Panel and going to Manage 3D settings > Program Settings.
    • Select the game from the list or add it manually, and then choose the preferred graphics processor as High-performance NVIDIA processor.
    • Apply the changes and restart the game.

    3. NVIDIA Control Panel:

    • Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
    • Check if there are any global settings affecting frame rates.
    • Ensure that V-sync is disabled there as well.

    4. Driver Update:

    • While you mentioned trying an old NVIDIA driver, consider updating to the latest driver for your GPU.
    • Sometimes newer drivers can resolve compatibility issues.

Please restart your game and PC after making any changes. If the problem persists, it might be worth checking if there’s a video card bottleneck causing the issue.

We hope that these steps help you resolve your issue. If you have any other questions or issues, please let me know. We are always happy to assist you.

Have a great day and happy gaming!

    Sincerely,

Why do I get a BSOD every time I play a game with my FPS uncapped?

    Various BSODs, Crashes and Freezes

To give a quick update, i havent had a whole lot of time to test if the issues persist in the last couple of days, but the games that i have played have been with a bit mixed result. Im still experiencing game crashes when i uncap the fps and turning on vsync or forcing the game to run with 60 fps still seem to stabilize them. On the good note, i havent yet encountered any BSODs for a while, but it would be nice to be able to play them without having to force the limited fps.
