Windows 10: Why do I get an error dialog when using RDC into a remote Win 11 Pro pc ?

Source pc: Windows 10 home Version 22H2 OS Build 19045.5198 Target pc: Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 OS Build 26100.2454 When I remote into my brand new Windows 11 Pro pc using Remote Desktop Connection from my Windows 10 Home pc, everything works fine. Except that 2 dialogs are displayed on the target PC screen. They appear in sets of two. I click "OK" on the first dialog and the second dialog appears. I click "OK" on the second dialog and the first dialog reappears. This goes on for 10 or 12 times and then the dialogs no longer appear. I can choose to ignore the error dialogs by

I have a feeling that this excellent tutorial is getting a little out of date, Some of the dialog boxes that I get on my Win 10 Pro trying to setup RDC to another Win 10 PC on my LAN do not match what you showed.

 

Remote Desktop Win 10 Pro through 2012 Essential Gateway

I recently upgraded my laptop and desktop to Win 10 Pro. Previously, I was using Win 7 on each computer. Before the upgrade, I was able to use the traditional Remote Desktop Connection software to connect to my work PC via my 2012 Essential server.

Since I've upgraded, I cannot connect to the work PC remotely using the built-in Win 10 RDC software. I can connect using my Android phone and using Remote Desktop Preview. As such, I know that the gateway and office computer are working.

FYI, I can establish Win 10 Pro to Win 10 Pro and Win 10 Pro to Win 2012 Essential remote desktop sessions using the built-in RDC software inside of my office network.

Why can't I connect through the gateway using the traditional, built-in Remote Desktop software?

I installed Foxit Reader on my local laptop, and it created the "Foxit Reader PDF Printer" in my printers list. It printed a test PDF fine on my local laptop.

I then reconnected to the remote desktop connection (RDC) , and watched the local laptop printers refreshed with (redirected n) suffix... except the Foxit Reader PDF Printer.

So the free reader does not work with RDC redirection : (

I tried this with CutePDF - same result, no redirection either.

My Adobe PDF printer (redirect n ) did work in Windows 10 ver 1709 , but no longer works after Windows update April 2008 ver 1803.

***To clarify, both my laptop and remote desktop are runnng Windows 10 pro. Win 10 pro allows for one user log in on RDC. It was the update to ver 1803 on the remote desktop computer that broke the PDF redirection feature. I use the RDC method to keep files
off the laptop, and on a safe remote desktop PC back at the office.
