Windows 10: Why do I get "Network path was not found" trying to access NAS when it shows up in Network...

After a Windows 10 update, I can no longer access my NAS by its name. I had to change my mappings to use its IP address. The more confusing part is that the name shows up in my Network folder when I boot up but when I click on it I get "The network path was not found." How can Windows find it to put it into the folder but not be able to find it to be able to access it? As I mentioned, I had been accessing the NAS by its name before the update for about a year. My PC has only one login and it is an administrator.j

I agree, those standard canned responses form MS reps, are annoying noise. And they never come back if it comes to the detailed point. And hey, I own about 5 Windows 10 copies.

On top I hope MS will consolidate all their forums into one.

I had same issue as described.

My NAS was shown in Network until end of 2015, on XP, Win 8, 10 since 5 years. I assume Windows 10 changed something to be more strict, standardized.

Even not shown. it was always accessible, once accessed it appeared also in Network node.

I tried many things on Windows side, as recommended by many other issues:

Finally I went back to my NAS (QNAP) and enabled WINS Server (use WINS and be WINS Server). Since then my NAS appears.

I've been researching for a few weeks, and finally have become frustrated enough to post my question here.

I have 4 different computers, all running windows 10. I'm also on the insider program, and 2 of those machines are on preview builds.

The issue is: I have two different NAS devices attached to my home network, and neither will show up under "Network" on any of the windows 10 machines. The odd part is that on a couple of the previous preview builds, the NAS devices would pop right
up. Currently the only way I can access either NAS is through the web interfaces (admin) via the IP. What I'm trying to do is to get them to show up under the "Network", so I can pin them to the start menu.....and map certain drives. The problem is getting
them to show up in "Network".

The rub is that both NAS devices showed up and worked fine in Win7 and Win8..... and even in a few of the preview builds of Win10. Its very frustrating.

Any advice on how to get to these devices, and be able to utilize them would be great!
