Windows 10: why do I have to click twice to highlight?

Not too long ago, when writing in Word 2021, I could highlight a word or sentence THEN click to copy it.Seems now I have to click first at the beginning of the highlight and then again at the end of the highlight - otherwise if I move the cursor away from the area I will lose the highlighted section or continue highlighting what I don't want to.Suggestions for correction?

Can't Highlight words or links.

Please reply:

  Are you not able to highlight the text or link by dragging the left click of the mouse?
  
• 
  Do you get options when you left click on the link or sentence?
  

I suggest you to drag over the sentence or link by holding the left button of the mouse and check if the issue is resolved. Right click on the mouse to show a list of options to do with the highlighted sentence or link.

If you use OPTION ONE or step 2 in OPTION TWO, it won't be listed twice, but it won't include the sort order fix.

If you use step 3 in OPTION TWO, it will be listed twice, but will include the sort order fix.
