Windows 10: why do i keep getting crashes while playing certain games

recently I deleted the %appdata% and %localappdata% files for discord as it was saying it was corrupted, then I restarted my computer and foolishly opened discord via the shortcut as I was on auto-pilot. This caused a continuous cycle of a diagnosing PC health restart loop. I finally came to the conclusion that reinstalling windows would be my only option after all else failed and so I have since done that and most things work fine. However when I am playing certain games, so far I have only experienced it on Overwatch 2, the game will crash when I'm playing it. I had a similar issue some time

Are they just random crashes? Or do they most commonly occur 5 minutes into playing a certain game?

Just going through things step by step to make sure I've done them all.
Entered powercfg -h off, but there wasn't any confirmation etc so unsure if this worked.

Other conversations led me to believe that it was a RAM issue, so I have since upgraded my RAM but the issues persist. I've also tried changing ram slots, loading only one ram stick etc as suggested in previous posts.

At the time I had not been overclocking, but the problem persists whether I'm overclocked or not - so currently running with A-XMP profile 1 enabled (msi b450 gaming plus max mobo). I also currently have "precision boost overdrive" enabled, but didn't at the time of crashes.

My main issue now is severe stuttering in games (not the game alone, but the entire pc itself freezes for a split second.) If this is no longer a suitable forum for my topic please let me know and I can move it!

 

Crashing with certain games

I have the identical issue as OP despite different hardware. Certain games crash within a few minutes while others are fine. Games that crash include Guardians of the Galaxy and Assassins Creed Origins.

I'm using a AORUS GeForce RTX™ 3080 XTREME 10G (rev. 2.0) and the Event Viewer message is identical, except instead of Device\Video3 is says Device\Video9.

I'm using 516.40 drivers and have already done a DDU. My next step is another DDU followed by year old drivers (466.47) listed on the AORUS GeForce RTX™ 3080 XTREME 10G (rev. 2.0) website. I don't see any VBIOS for the rev 2.0 version of the card.

I can provide DXDIAG, MSCONFIG, or anything you think could help to diagnose this.
