  1. Why do I keep getting the ridiculous prompt that I have to install .Net...

This is absolutely unacceptable in the year 2025. I restore my computer to an earlier version. Suddenly, Windows decided it was so brilliant to remove or uninstall my runtimes or whatever. I can't even get into the Dell Display Manager because of this ridiculous prompt. I get the following: You must install .Net Desktop Runtime to run this applicationArchitecture: x64App Host version: 8.0.11I install this exact program, and this idiotic prompt still pops up like it's an unaware computer from the 90s without the supposed intelligence. I've installed all kinds of Runtimes already, still the same

    :)

  2. Can not install Microsoft. NET Framework 3.5SP1

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community and being a part of Windows 10.

I understand your concern about installing the .NET Framework on your device. Do not worry we will help you with this issue.

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

I suggest you to turn on .NET Framework feature and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows + R keys from the keyboard.
    • Click on Programs and Features.
    • Click on Turn Windows features on or off from the left pane.
    • Check if the .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
      option is available in it.
    • If yes, then enable it and then click on OK.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and restart the computer, if prompted.

This will install the .NET Framework 3.5 feature on the computer. There is also another way by which .NET Framework 3.5 gets installed on the computer. This is done by the apps on demand.

Hope it helps. Get back to us with an updated status of this issue for further assistance.

    Ridiculous installation requirement

@whs, what you have experienced is due Two-Step verification which you have turned on. It is of course up to you alone if you decide to use this added security feature or turn it off. This screenshot from MS account's security options page:

Why do I keep getting the ridiculous prompt that I have to install .Net... 9965d1485949174t-ridiculous-installation-requirement-2015-01-02_15h12_48.png

More: Microsoft Account "Two-step Verification" - Turn On or Off.

In my case, I have Two-Step verification on with a secondary email address, a mobile phone number and the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on my Windows phone. In my case when installing Windows and using an MS Account for initial sign in I will get this:

Why do I keep getting the ridiculous prompt that I have to install .Net... 9966d1485949174t-ridiculous-installation-requirement-2015-01-02_15h40_11.png

If I have no access to my Windows Phone or for another reason want to use an alternative method, I can select phone or email:

Why do I keep getting the ridiculous prompt that I have to install .Net... 9967d1485949174t-ridiculous-installation-requirement-2015-01-02_15h44_56.png

Conclusion: You will only be asked the security code sent by email if you have set up the Two-Step verification feature and email is the only option (you will not use the Authenticator app nor have you given a phone number in your MS Account security settings).
