  1. Why do I not get an authenticator alert when someone else has logged in to my account?

I am seeing multiple unsuccessful attempt to log into my account from all around the world. I understand my email address may have leaked somewhere and these are people trying to get in and failing. The one I'm most concerned about is the successful attempt which happened yesterday around 9pm. I did not see an authenticator notification to say someone had tried to access my account so how were they able to successfully log in? I have since changed my password but am now very worried that my email account is compromised.

    :)

  2. Microsoft Account set to use 2 Factor Authentication & Authentication Phone App but it doesn't prompt for authentication when signing in to my Windows 10 PC locally or remotely (via RDP).

OK I created a 2nd Microsoft account and setup the Authentication App on an old phone I had lying around for 2-factor authentication.

    Step 1

I logged into this website with that account and it prompted me with the Authentication App so 2 factor is setup correctly on the NEW Microsoft Account.

    Step 2

I logged in on my Windows 10 PC with that NEW account and it also DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor Authentication.

I tried to log in via RDP and, again, it DOES NOT PROMPT for 2-Factor.

    My question remains unanswered.

Unable to add account to Authenticator

I have had the Authenticator app installed on my phone for a while for a work account. No problems, other than it takes more steps to access that account. Now Microft wants me to use it for my account with them, but offers no way to add it to Authenticator. As I already have the app on my phone, I can't download it again, and that's the only path offered. Now I'm unable to access my account with them.

What's worse, I can't raise it with MS Support or Answers because I have to be logged in first!

    Anyone have any suggestions?

  4. Why do I not get an authenticator alert when someone else has logged in to my account?

    Windows Microsoft account authentication

I have a valid Microsoft account and a Windows 10 PC with Hello/PIN account login enabled. I also have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on an iPhone and configured for the Microsoft account. Additionally, I have two step authentication configured
for the Microsoft account. With all of that said, I have become very exasperated while trying to unravel the various authentication paths (and their security implications) through this multi level login security scheme. I find the associated account security
documentation to be woefully inadequate. Thus, I would like to pose the following list of questions for starters.

    1. Does Windows Hello/PIN amount to a two step verification login procedure for my Microsoft account?

    2. Does approving a Microsoft Authenticator login attempt (without two step verification explicitly set up)

amount to a two step verification login procedure for my Microsoft account?

    3. Does approving a Microsoft Authenticator login attempt (with two step verification explicitly set up)

amount to a two step verification login procedure for my Microsoft account?

    4. If answers to both 2 and 3 are yes, then what does explicit set up of two step authentication do?

    5. Does a coherent, comprehensive document explaining Microsoft account security configuration exist somewhere?

    6. If the answer to 5 is yes, wherer is it?

    Thanks in advance.
