Windows 10: Why do I not have "proper permissions" to see the Exclusion page and how do I fix it?

I'm trying to add an exclusion to my security and am being told "I do not have proper permissions". It's my personal computer. How do I change it so that I have "proper permissions"?

Windows Defender - The list of exclusions does not appear

Registry permissions is definitely part of the problem, but not all. I saw weirdness even after carrying out the steps I mentioned above. Also, just yesterday, I launched the WD interface and my exclusions were not there. I added a new process exclusion and magically, all the other exclusions appeared as soon as I did that.

Edit: All these weeks and many updates later, and the strangeness still occurs for me. I just clicked "Add or remove exclusions" and the list was empty. I backed out and clicked it again, and my two exclusions magically appeared. This is not just about registry permissions.

No permissions

Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

• Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
  
• Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
• Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
  

This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.
